Cookies & storage

What is stored in your browser and how you control optional analytics.

Cookies and browser storage

Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. Local storage also saves information on your device, but is not automatically sent with every page request. We use these technologies for site functions, preferences, and optional analytics.

What this site uses

Purpose Storage Duration / control
Privacy choice First-party local storage: unlock-privacy-v1 Honored for 180 days, then we ask again. The stored record is replaced when you choose again; you can remove it in browser settings.
Motion preference First-party local storage: unlock-motion No set expiry. Remains until changed or cleared in your browser.
Google Analytics (optional) Google tag and first-party analytics cookies, typically _ga and _ga_* Only enabled after you allow analytics. Cookie lifetimes depend on Google’s configuration and browser limits. Rejecting analytics removes accessible Google Analytics cookies for this site.
Security and administration Cloudflare challenge cookies and WordPress login or session cookies may be used when a security check or administrator login requires them. Duration varies by function and provider. Ordinary visitors do not need a WordPress account.
Browser rendering WordPress may use session storage, such as wpEmojiSettingsSupports, to check emoji display support. Stored for the browser session; this is not analytics.

Spam filtering and server-side rate limiting protect the contact form. These functions may process technical information without optional analytics cookies; the privacy policy explains that processing. A security cookie is not set on every visit, and the exact names can change when providers update their systems.

Choosing or changing analytics

Use “Reject analytics” or “Allow analytics” in the initial notice. In Privacy settings, the Google Analytics checkbox lets you choose analytics independently of essential functions. The footer’s Privacy settings link is available on every page.

Rejecting analytics blocks the Google tag on subsequent page loads. If you switch analytics off after allowing it, we update the choice, remove accessible analytics cookies, and reload the current page to stop the previously loaded tag. Information already transmitted before withdrawal is not recalled. This control does not turn on advertising consent.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, optional analytics stays off. If JavaScript or browser storage is unavailable, analytics remains off unless you make an affirmative choice during that visit. Clearing site storage, changing browsers, or using another device means your choice may need to be made again.

Browser controls and other websites

You can inspect, delete, or block cookies and local storage using your browser’s privacy settings. Blocking necessary storage can affect security checks or prevent your preferences from being remembered. Our controls apply to this site, not other websites reached through links.

Google explains its processing at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. For questions about this notice, use our contact form and mention “Cookie question.” We may update this page as the site’s technologies change.
